Inherited is a podcast that explores the intersection of healthcare, mental health, culture, identity, and community. Through honest conversations with healthcare professionals, researchers, advocates, change-makers, and individuals with lived experience, we examine the systems, stories, and disparities that influence how we live, heal, and thrive. Our goal isn't just to talk about the problems—it's to elevate solutions, challenge perspectives, and inspire meaningful change.

What We Talk About





Health Equity & Healthcare Disparities



Health outcomes should never be determined by race, income, language, geography, or ZIP code. Yet millions of individuals continue to experience barriers to quality healthcare because of systemic inequities. On Inherited, we examine the root causes of healthcare disparities, explore innovative solutions, and amplify the voices of leaders working to create a more equitable healthcare system. Through expert insights and real-world experiences, we discuss how access, education, policy, and advocacy can improve health outcomes for everyone.



Mental Health & Emotional Well-Being



Mental health is an essential part of overall health, yet stigma, misinformation, and lack of access continue to prevent many people from receiving the support they need. We create space for honest conversations about anxiety, depression, trauma, burnout, grief, resilience, and healing while highlighting the importance of culturally responsive mental healthcare. Our goal is to normalize seeking support and empower individuals to prioritize their emotional well-being without shame.



Culturally Aligned Care



Healthcare and mental health services are most effective when they recognize and respect the cultural identities, lived experiences, values, and beliefs of the people they serve. We explore why culturally aligned care leads to stronger patient relationships, improved outcomes, and healthier communities. Together with healthcare professionals and community leaders, we discuss strategies for reducing barriers, increasing trust, and ensuring every individual receives care that honors who they are.



Women's Health Across the Lifespan



Women's health extends far beyond annual checkups. We discuss topics that impact women throughout every stage of life, including reproductive health, maternal care, menopause, chronic illness, preventive care, mental health, caregiver responsibilities, and healthcare advocacy. We also examine the unique challenges women—particularly women from historically underserved communities—face when navigating healthcare systems and advocating for their own well-being.





Community, Advocacy & Systems Change



Healthy communities are built through collaboration, leadership, and collective action. We spotlight organizations, advocates, healthcare professionals, policymakers, and grassroots leaders working to improve access to care and address the social factors that influence health. Faith, Healing & Resilience



For many individuals and families, faith and spirituality play a significant role in how they cope, heal, and find hope during life's most difficult moments. We explore the relationship between faith, mental health, medicine, and resilience while encouraging thoughtful conversations that respect diverse beliefs and experiences. Our goal is to demonstrate that faith and evidence-based care can complement one another in supporting whole-person wellness.



Autism, Neurodiversity & Caregiving



Families navigating autism, developmental disabilities, and other forms of neurodiversity often face unique challenges within healthcare, education, and community systems. We share practical resources, personal stories, and expert guidance that support caregivers while promoting greater understanding, inclusion, and advocacy. These conversations highlight the importance of creating communities where neurodiverse individuals and their families are respected, supported, and empowered.

Every generation inherits something—beliefs, traditions, strengths, challenges, trauma, and resilience. Inherited explores how families, culture, history, and systems influence our health, relationships, and opportunities. Founder & CEO, Daughters of Both Suns


Jessica Sanchez is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Daughters of Both Suns, a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing mental health equity, culturally responsive care, and community wellness through advocacy, education, and resource navigation. As a nonprofit executive, mental health advocate, and community leader, Jessica has devoted her work to breaking down barriers that prevent individuals and families from accessing quality behavioral healthcare and supportive services. Her leadership is rooted in the belief that healing cannot exist without acknowledging the cultural, historical, and systemic experiences that shape people's lives. Through Daughters of Both Suns, she has developed initiatives focused on trauma-informed care, maternal mental health, autism advocacy, caregiver support, community partnerships, and expanding access to culturally aligned mental health resources for underserved populations. Jessica's work extends beyond direct service. She actively collaborates with healthcare providers, nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, government agencies, and community leaders to build innovative solutions that improve access to care while addressing the social and structural factors that contribute to health inequities. Her passion for advocacy is driven by a commitment to ensuring that every individual feels seen, heard, and supported regardless of their background or circumstances. As co-host of Inherited, Jessica brings the community perspective to conversations that explore mental health, healthcare disparities, culture, faith, identity, advocacy, and systems change. Drawing from both professional leadership and lived experience, she is committed to fostering conversations that challenge stigma, encourage understanding, and empower communities to rewrite the narratives they pass on to future generations. She believes that while we cannot always choose what we inherit, we can choose how we heal, how we lead, and the legacy we leave behind.

Dr. Valencia Henry is a healthcare leader, advocate, and founder of VQS Access Health, an organization dedicated to improving health outcomes through equitable, patient-centered care and community engagement. With a passion for addressing healthcare disparities, Dr. Henry has built her career around ensuring that individuals—particularly those from historically underserved communities—have access to compassionate, culturally responsive, and evidence-based healthcare. Her work focuses on the intersection of clinical excellence, prevention, patient advocacy, and health equity. She is committed to educating communities, empowering patients to become active participants in their healthcare, and helping bridge the gap between medical systems and the populations they serve.
